This album is completely instrumental and brings
a fusion of progressive rock and jazz. This means a profound
presence of bass and drums, lively keyboards and a superb guitar.
One could compare it with the work of Pat Travers and
Jeff Beck and perhaps a bit of Focus too. Those
who love this kind of music will certainly enjoy listening to this
record.
The music isn’t always easy and one sometimes
wonders if all the musicians are playing in tune, but that’s quite
normal for this kind of music. The negative aspect of this album is
a lack of variety. After a few songs one gets the feeling that one
has heard the same tunes before and that’s a pity.
Exception and a peaceful oasis on this album is
‘Crumbs’, a very slow song with weeping guitar and Hammond organ.
The rhythm is slightly raised after a while, but the atmosphere is
one of timeless jazz/blues-rock.
‘Lesser Beings’ can hardly be called a musical
track as it consists of sounds, a bit comparable to the ‘desert
scene’ in Pink Floyd’s ‘Echoes’.
In ‘Misfit Toys’ Fox and Bocchino are duelling,
showing their supremacy on their instruments.
The final minutes of ‘Chimps in Space’ are just
great!
Overall: a good album, but I miss some more variety. |
