Some
time ago the band Dukes Of Confusion (Belgium) were touring Belgium.
From this successful tour they released a live album, recorded in CC
De Kadans in Wuustwezel, Belgium on
March 23rd 2004.
The
music of this band can best be described as Avant-Garde, although
this is only really true for the vocals. Because the music itself
should be filed under a.o. blues, blues-rock, jazz, jazz-rock or
country. The use of a mix of all this styles even gives this album a
progressive touch. The leading thread running through it is, as they
quote themselves, “There Is Nothing Strange About Madness”. The
whole album is about this theme. “It doesn’t hurt to be mad”, but I
have my doubts about that...
The
recording is of a high quality. The music is quite all right. The
guitar solos are excellent. Some tracks are quite nice. But because
the vocals are so extreme, I’m afraid the CD won’t make a big
impression on the mainstream public. The vocals are in different
languages (French, English, Dutch, German). Sometimes it’s a bit
cabaret, sometimes it’s a bit opera. But live it should attract a
lot of people, because of the visual attraction of this kind of
music.
To be honest, I have to say I give
them the benifit of the doubt and that’s why I certainly want to see
one of their gigs. I hope to meet you there! |
