If you like
acoustic guitar virtuosity there’s no doubt you’ll enjoy listening
to Whitewater. Three guitar players from around the globe (USA,
Belgium and Japan) show us a wide range of what can be done with
this instrument.
The first tracks are very relaxing, even meditative, and give proof
that acoustic guitar play can surely ease the mind. This is pure
music and has nothing of the artificial sound which can often be
found in new age, so called meditative music. No sooner than in
track nr 4 they bring in an electric guitar, perfectly adding its
gentle sounds to the carefully built atmosphere.
CGT knows that – however perfectly they can play – repetition often
leads to boredom. After having relaxed their listener, they switch
to more fusion-like work. The guitars get a dynamic (more electric)
sound and keep you very awake.
In Cosmo Calypso one is invited to drift away on cosmic sounds. The
guitar effect pedals are used in such a way that one can recognise
the effects that were so often used by Tangerine Dream.
Nice is also the ending track in which the classic
western-instrumental Ghost Riders and the legendary Riders on the
storm of the Doors are wonderfully combined into a quite original
mixture.
Whitewater is a nice record.
