Stand Alone
Together is a concept album about the moonlanding hoax. Very much
influenced by the traditional symphonic rock as it was made in the
seventies. The first track is very much like Eloy’s “The Power and
the Passion”, including a dreamy female voice. “Beyond the Clouds”
and “Through the eye of a Telescope” are very up tempo with a lot of
guitar energy. In between the songs the radio messages and spacy
sounds can be heard. “Universal Dot to Dot” is interesting in this
way that the ‘landing’ can be followed: no music, just sounds. All quite nice and the guitar solos are not bad at all, but the music misses the extra dose of power that I needed to make this album into something special. There are quite some Pink Floyd influences too: some sounds that seem to have been sampled from “Echoes” and the finale could be compared with “The Great Gig in the Sky” without reaching the same top quality level, however. “Changing Horizon” sounds too much like “On the Run” from Dark Side of the Moon to be a coincidence. The short playing time isn’t an advantage either if one thinks about buying the cd. A nice go between… |
