Mind Gate is a Polish band and this is their second demo, a four-track CD, which precedes the full album. (the first demo was called “Forgotten Odyssey”) It’s a band with very skilful musicians who bring a blend of progressive and complex music, with a heavier tendency from time to time. I certainly won’t argue their musical ability, because they play music of a high quality. The songs are complex, with references to King Crimson, Vander Graaf Generator, Gentle Giant,... I just wonder if they don’t exaggerate with their complexity of their music. Is it really necessary to make the songs that difficult? Sometimes, I have the feeling that they follow a complex path where an easier way is more evident. But as with all other complex music, you begin to recognize the songs after a while and it gets better every time you listen to it. Their biggest problems are the vocals. I can (barely) get used to the sound of his voice but his English is awful. The grammar is all right, but his pronunciation and his accent are a real disaster. Fortunately, this is only a demo. It must be possible to do something about this? Maybe get advice from an English teacher? Or use Polish lyrics? It is possible; just take a look at Quidam, who made it with lyrics in their maternal language. It certainly is a lot better then this bad English. You can purchase this demo for 4 euro (dispatching included) via internet. When you’re interested, send a mail to mindgate@wp.pl |
