Armando Petrini was born on the 27th of june 1968 at Philadelphia USA and moved with his parents to Italy in September 1976. He started playing guitar in 1983 with lessons from masters like Paolo Giovannini, Fosco Foschini & Danilo Zuffi. At that time he was influenced by Italian pop artists like Toto Cutugno, Riccardo Fogli, Vasco Rossi and English artists like Pink Floyd, Deep Purple and Yes. In 1985 Armando started his own band called Vanessa with some friends in Imola. They were playing mostly original tunes that he wrote himself in the style of Iron Maiden, Deep Purple & Accept. In 1993 he decided to enrol at GIT (Guitar Institute of Technology) and graduated the following year. That was a great experience for him, where he learned a lot from guys like Dan Gilbert, Scott Henderson and the incredible guitar monster Carl Verheyen. In 1996 Armando started teaching in different schools in northern Italy. From 1998 to 2000 he also played a lot of gigs in different clubs in northern Italy with a cover band called Fuzzy Sound. At this moment he’s actually teaching the CFM in Bologna and at his home, also teaching young talented guitar players from the age of 6 on. The rest of the time he is composing new material. “Good mood” start with a pretty cool rock sounding song with a lot of heavy guitar work and lots of solo’s. Enough to spread all his talents in this first song. “On the run again” is also a pretty rocking up tempo song with even in this one lots of solo work. “Flowers for Phrygian” is a more baladic piece of music, as the title already presumed, with more sensitive but correctly played melodies. Also “Relax” is a calm piece of music in beautiful acoustic style and a sensitive way of playing electric solo guitar. “Just me and you” has a more pop character but Armando gives the whole song an own dimension with nice guitar melodies. “Leathal weapon” could be a song taken from an action movie. It’s a driven song with just the right proportion of fast guitar work and melody or solo playing. “Out from the darkness” and “A beautiful day” are also more calming with talented played guitar melodies and good solo work. The whole album sounds clear and the production is just fine for a record, arranged and produced on his own. During this whole album I heard influenced from Joe Satriani, Steve Morse, Yngwie Malmsteen and Uli John Roth, If you like names to compare with. But Armando Petrini for shore has got his own way of playing. If you like the above names I mentioned, this CD could be the right one for you. |
